Islamabad: Pakistan is grappling with increasing social unrest, evident in recent events in Balochistan, KP, and Islamabad. In Balochistan, tensions escalated after Mahrang Baloch was treated harshly during her peaceful protest for missing persons last winter. Her treatment sparked widespread sympathy, and the state’s heavy-handed response has only intensified local anger.
In Bannu, frustration boiled over due to the federal government’s failure to address national security separately from political issues. This breakdown in trust between locals and armed forces led to clashes and unnecessary violence, worsening existing tensions between KP and the central government.
Islamabad has seen confusion and contradiction, with the TLP’s protest over Palestine leading to disruptions and a threat against the chief justice. The state’s lenient stance towards the TLP contrasts sharply with the harsh measures against PTI’s peaceful protests, highlighting double standards. Critics argue that the government’s current approach is deepening societal divisions rather than addressing the root causes of unrest.
