German Envoy calls on Chairman PRCS

Ambassador Alfred Grannas praised the advancements made by PRCS under Chairman Laghari’s guidance in easing the plight of vulnerable communities and underscored the long-standing partnership between PRCS and the German Red Cross, which has endured for four decades.

Chairman PRCS, Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari, expressed his appreciation for Ambassador Grannas’s sincere concern for the people of Pakistan and his commitment to addressing humanitarian needs. He emphasized the importance of the Ambassador’s visit in broadening avenues of cooperation for the betterment of vulnerable communities.

Islamabad, March 2024– The Ambassador of Germany to Pakistan, His Excellency Alfred Grannas, reiterated the paramount importance of humanitarian service during his meeting with Chairman Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) at the PRCS National Headquarters here on Thursday. The discussion underscored a shared commitment to advancing humanitarian endeavors in Pakistan through collaborative efforts.

Ambassador Grannas commended PRCS’s pivotal role in alleviating the suffering of vulnerable communities and emphasized the enduring partnership between PRCS and the German Red Cross, spanning four decades. The meeting delved into various topics including bilateral relations and the imperative of enhancing cooperation for the betterment of humanity.

Chairman Laghari provided insights into PRCS’s initiatives, particularly its endeavors in rehabilitation and reconstruction following recent floods in Pakistan. He highlighted ongoing collaborative projects with the German Red Cross, such as Anticipatory Actions for Humanitarian Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and the Climate Advocacy and Coordination for Resilient Action (CACRA) project for Disaster Risk Management (DRM).

Following the meeting, Chairman Laghari lauded Ambassador Grannas for his genuine concern for the people of Pakistan and his dedication to addressing humanitarian needs. He emphasized the significance of the Ambassador’s visit in strengthening ties between Pakistan and Germany and expanding avenues of cooperation for the benefit of vulnerable communities.
Ambassador Grannas commended PRCS’s progress under Chairman Laghari’s leadership and reaffirmed Germany’s support for its humanitarian endeavors. Discussions also revolved around exploring new areas of cooperation and implementing joint programs to fulfill the mandate of the Red Crescent. “PRCS is making admirable strides in relief and disaster preparedness; we stand steadfast alongside the Red Crescent,” he emphasized.

Earlier, the German Ambassador received briefings on various sectors during his visit, alongside Secretary General Muhammad Abidullah Khan and other officials.

In the end, Chairman Laghari presented Dr. Alfred Grannas with a commemorative shield and souvenir as tokens of appreciation, symbolizing the shared commitment to humanitarian causes and the enduring partnership between Germany and Pakistan in advancing these efforts.
