BEJING : The world’s longest outdoor escalator has been opened to the public in the mountainous city of Chongqing, China, which is more than half a mile long and appears to go continuously upwards. Known as the ‘Goddess Escalator,’ this unique structure runs through the middle of Wushan District. It starts at the bottom of a steep slope and goes straight up into the sky, making it feel as if it is touching the sky. Its size and scope are difficult to fully capture in videos. According to the Financial Times, it takes about 21 minutes to reach from one end to the other on this escalator and is probably the largest of its kind in the world. About nine thousand people use this escalator every day in Wushan.
