BERLIN : A new study has revealed that the human brain rewards itself for thinking about the future, which strengthens this habit. The study, led by Akram Dere, a psychologist at Ruhr University Bochum in Germany and Sorbonne University in France, found that imagining future situations activates the brain’s reward system. According to experts, when a person thinks about a solution to a future problem, the system that creates pleasure and motivation in the brain is activated, which increases the desire to repeat this process over and over again. This process has been linked to operant conditioning in scientific language. Research has shown that people who think more about the future, their brains become accustomed to this process over time, which can improve planning and reduce mental stress.
