Karachi, Pakistan: In 2022, devastating floods in Pakistan affected 33 million people, destroying homes and livelihoods. International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan UN alongside Pakistan hosted “Climate Resilient Pakistan” Conference in Geneva on Jan 09, 2023, Ambassador at Large for Global Peace & Human Rights, Imam Allama Muhammad Ahsan Siddiqui, Chairman, Interfaith Commission for Peace & Harmony (ICPH).
The Government of Pakistan and UN International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan spotlights global solidarity to support recovery efforts & build climate resilience. Pakistan is in need and the world has risen to the challenge. This is high time global north should support countries like Pakistan to build resilience against climate change. Pakistan needs long-term partnerships to build climate-resilient infrastructure. Climate change induced disasters will continue to hit Pakistan. This is high time global north should support countries like Pakistan to build resilience against climate change. Therefore it needs programs that build Pakistan’s climate resilience and adaptation.
Ambassador Allama Ahsan said that Pakistan secures pledges totaling $9 billion and 643 million from various international organizations and governments for Rehabilitation and Reconstruction caused by the recent floods. A strong show of support for Pakistan’s development and humanitarian needs. Was heartened by the demonstration of international solidarity with Pakistan as it begins journey towards building back better. It is indeed a new lifeline for the flood affectees.
ICPH Chairman Imam Allama Ahsan said the flooding has shown how ill-prepared Pakistan is to face climate change-induced disasters. The attention of UN for reconstruction, and rehabilitation in the flood-affected areas of Pakistan. But concrete steps can protect vulnerable Pakistani communities from the damaging consequences of climate change.
Imam Allama Ahsan said that last year, especially the services of the Secretary General United Nations H.E. Antonio Guterres, are commendable. He has also visited the flood-affected areas recently. Ambassador Allama Ahsan said In Geneve conference more than US$ 9B have been pledged by International community for next three years. It’s welcoming that world is recognizing the need to support vulnerable countries in responding to the loss and damage incurred by climate induced disasters
He further said that a big thank you from Pakistan to world leaders for their generosity.
Ambassador Allama Ahsan Siddiqui expressed gratitude to the world community, friendly states and institutions, European Union, US AID, Asian Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank, World Bank, China, Saudi Arabia, Germany, United Kingdom, United States, Japan, France and Azerbaijan for generous support to rebuild lives of flood-affectees and to increase our resilience against climate change. Interfaith Commission for Peace & Harmony (ICPH) thanked for pledging more than $9 Billion support of all international efforts to enhance emergency relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction in the aftermath of the floods that swept Pakistan.
There is no doubt that the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister have rendered exemplary service to the flood victims by considering the suffering of the flood victims as their own. Congrats on the success, going forth there’s a bigger challenge of rehab. Hope the flood affectees get the relief Asap. The government must now show transparency and keep in constant contact with the Secretary General of the United Nations so that the promises can be implemented.
