ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has confirmed that Ali Amin Gandapur has been removed from his position as the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Earlier, Gandapur had expressed his readiness to resign amid reports that the PTI leadership had decided to replace him. However, he later clarified that he had not yet received any formal directive from the party to step down, stating that he would relinquish his post whenever instructed by PTI founder Imran Khan or the leadership.
According to party sources cited by Geo News, PTI is expected to appoint MPA Sohail Afridi as the new chief minister of KP. However, no official confirmation has been made by senior PTI leaders.
The decision appears to stem from increasing internal divisions within PTI. Gandapur and Aleema Khan, sister of Imran Khan, have recently exchanged serious allegations against each other. Reports also suggest that Imran Khan has expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the provincial government, prompting discussions about a leadership change.
Political analyst Shahzeb Khanzada noted that the development indicates Aleema Khan’s influence within the party has strengthened, adding that tensions between Gandapur and the leadership are not new.
Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan said he was unaware of any such decision, though Bushra Bibi’s lawyer, Rai Salman, confirmed that Gandapur has been officially removed from office.
