TDAP Targets Global Markets to Expand Pakistan’s Furniture Exports

TDAP engages furniture exporters to expand Pakistan’s global market presence.
The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) has intensified efforts to expand Pakistan’s furniture exports by engaging industry representatives and leading exporters.
The TDAP Director (E&M-II) held a consultative meeting with representatives of major furniture associations and key exporters. The participants discussed ways to improve the sector’s competitiveness and increase its presence in international markets.
The meeting explored opportunities in the Middle East, Far East, United States, Türkiye and Africa. Participants also discussed Pakistan’s participation in major international furniture exhibitions, including INDEX Dubai, MIFF Kuala Lumpur and CIFF China.
Industry Seeks Stronger Skills and Design
Industry representatives stressed the importance of research and development, modern design and technical training. They said these areas can help Pakistani manufacturers meet international standards and compete more effectively.
In addition, the industry proposed cooperation with the Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA) for skills development. It also suggested establishing a Common Facility Centre to provide manufacturers with better technical support.
Furthermore, industry representatives called for stronger links between furniture manufacturers and the Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design (PIFD). Such partnerships could improve furniture design, finishing techniques and product development.
The participants also highlighted the need for greater international collaboration. They believe stronger industry-academia links can help manufacturers develop products that match changing global consumer preferences.
Proposed Furniture Expo in Islamabad
Meanwhile, the industry proposed a dedicated Furniture Expo in Islamabad. The proposed event would bring Pakistani manufacturers together with international buyers.
The participants also suggested a focused international buyer programme and structured business-to-business meetings. These initiatives could help exporters develop direct relationships with overseas buyers and generate new orders.
Moreover, targeted participation in international exhibitions could give Pakistani companies greater exposure to global markets. TDAP already highlights international exhibitions as an important tool for trade promotion and exporter outreach.
TDAP Reaffirms Support for Exporters
TDAP reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Pakistan’s furniture industry. The authority said it would continue working with industry associations and other stakeholders to improve competitiveness and expand market access.
The furniture sector has significant export potential, but manufacturers face challenges related to international marketing, product development, skills and access to overseas buyers. A TDAP industry study has previously identified these areas among the key issues affecting furniture exports.
Therefore, stronger cooperation between the government and private sector could help Pakistani furniture manufacturers reach more international customers.
With greater investment in design, skills, technology and international marketing, Pakistan’s furniture industry can strengthen its position in global markets. TDAP’s latest engagement signals a renewed effort to turn that potential into sustainable export growth.
