Shehbaz Sharif Turkiye Visit: PM arrives in Istanbul for talks with President Erdogan

The Pakistani prime minister is expected to discuss trade, investment and regional security with the Turkish president after attending the funeral of Iran’s late supreme leader.

Shehbaz Sharif Turkiye Visit began on Friday as Pakistan’s Prime Minister arrived in Istanbul for an official bilateral visit at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, following a brief trip to Iran where he attended the funeral ceremonies of the country’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the visit is the third made by Shehbaz Sharif to Turkiye in the past three months, underscoring efforts by both countries to strengthen bilateral cooperation and coordinate on regional developments.

The prime minister was welcomed at Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport by Turkish Trade Minister Prof Dr Omer Bolat, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Turkiye Dr Yousaf Junaid, and senior officials from the Turkish foreign ministry and the Pakistani embassy.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, is accompanying the prime minister during the visit.

The Prime Minister’s Office said Shehbaz Sharif and President Erdogan will hold comprehensive talks covering all aspects of Pakistan-Turkiye relations. Their discussions are expected to focus on expanding cooperation in trade, investment and economic development, while also reviewing regional peace and security issues.

During his stay in Istanbul, the prime minister will also address a Pakistan-hosted business conference aimed at promoting investment opportunities. The event will showcase prospects in Special Economic Zones (SEZs), energy, information technology and privatisation.

Leading Turkish business executives, investors, senior government officials and other dignitaries are expected to attend the conference as both countries seek to deepen economic partnerships.
