ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has termed the prestigious civilian award conferred upon him by President Asif Ali Zardari as a great honour not only for himself but for the entire Pakistani nation.

Following the investiture ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr, Shahid Afridi shared a photograph on social media alongside his wife and daughter, expressing gratitude for the recognition and appreciation he has received throughout his career.
In his message shared on X, Afridi stated that the honour was not solely his personal achievement but a tribute to the love, prayers, and unwavering support of the people of Pakistan who stood by him throughout his journey.
“This is not just Shahid Afridi’s honour, but the honour of the entire Pakistani nation. It is your love, prayers, and support that brought me to this position,” he wrote.
The former captain further dedicated the award to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country, saying their sacrifices remain the true pride of the nation.
“This award is also dedicated to those martyrs who laid down their lives for the homeland. May Allah always protect Pakistan, Ameen,” Afridi added.
Earlier in the day, President Asif Ali Zardari conferred the prestigious Hilal-e-Imtiaz upon Shahid Afridi in recognition of his outstanding services and achievements in the field of sports and cricket.
Shahid Afridi is regarded as one of Pakistan’s most celebrated cricketers, admired internationally for his explosive batting style, match-winning performances, and contributions to Pakistan cricket over the years.
The award ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr was attended by prominent personalities, government officials, sports figures, and members of Afridi’s family.
Fans and cricket enthusiasts across the country also congratulated Afridi on receiving one of Pakistan’s highest civilian honours, describing it as a proud moment for the nation and the sporting community.
