Karachi (July 10, 2025): Senator Waqar Mehdi, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Sindh for the Chief Minister’s Inspection, Inquiries, and Implementation Team, has said that the development of District South and the resolution of public grievances remain top priorities for the Sindh government. He emphasized that there will be zero tolerance for delays or compromises in the timely execution and quality of development projects. He also warned that any negligence by officials will lead to strict disciplinary action, while contractors delivering substandard work will be blacklisted.

Senator Waqar Mehdi shared these remarks while chairing a meeting to review the progress of development schemes in Karachi’s South District under the Sindh Government’s Annual Development Program (ADP) and the District ADP of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).

The meeting, held at the office of the Deputy Commissioner South, was attended by Advisor to the Chief Minister of Sindh Najmi Alam, Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi Khoso, Director General CMIT Abdul Salam Memon, PPP South General Secretary Taimur Siyal, CMIT Member Ghulam Mohiuddin Asim, KMC Director General Technical Tariq Mughal, KDA Chief Engineer Abdul Samad Jamalani, and Chief Engineer of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) Muhammad Ali Sheikh, along with other senior officials from KDA, KMC, and KWSB.

The meeting was briefed on a total of 8 development schemes of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), one scheme of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), and 26 schemes being executed under the District ADP in South Karachi. It was reported that out of the 8 KMC and KDA schemes under the Annual Development Program, 7 have been completed, while 42% progress has been made on the remaining KDA project. The combined cost of these 8 schemes exceeds Rs. 591 million. Additionally, the briefing highlighted that under the District ADP, work is progressing swiftly on 26 KMC development schemes in District South, with an estimated total cost of over Rs. 520 million.

Senator Waqar Mehdi emphasized that all development schemes in Karachi’s District South are designed to provide essential services and much-needed relief to the public. He directed the concerned officers of the Chief Minister’s Inspection, Inquiry, and Implementation Team (CMIIT) to conduct thorough inspections of ongoing projects in the district, evaluate their quality, and submit detailed reports without delay. Reiterating the government’s zero-tolerance policy, he warned that any negligence or delays in project execution would result in strict disciplinary action against the responsible officials, while contractors delivering substandard work would be blacklisted.

He further instructed the three participating departments — KMC, KDA, and the Water Board — to regularly submit progress updates on all development schemes to the Deputy Commissioner South.

Addressing the issue of pending projects in Lyari, Senator Waqar Mehdi urged that these be completed at the earliest and formally reported. He stressed the importance of completing all remaining development work within the specified timelines to ensure timely relief and improved services for the citizens.
