KARACHI – PTI Leader Samir Mir Shaikh, along with other PTI officials, visited Lyari to hold an Ehsan Kafaalat Program enrollment drive for the disabled people of the area. The Ehsan Kafaalat program is a welfare and poverty alleviation initiative by the Federal Government. More than Rs. 95 million in Lyari & Rs. 60 billion have been disbursed to Sindh since inception of this program, to date.
This program is the biggest of its kind ever introduced by any Pakistani Federal Government to help the poorest strata of society.
Lyari, as a constituency has always been under a stronghold of Pakistan People’s Party, where Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had contested elections from.
Samir Mir Shaikh, after his visit, remarked that “the roads and infrastructure in Lyari was absolutely abysmal. The roads and streets are completely broken, the sewage system is non existent, with debris floating on the streets.
There are stray dogs everywhere and no vaccines available for dog-bites. The hospitals are in non-working conditions. The residents complained that they have not received any attention from Sindh government in the last 13 years, to bring about any positive change in the area. Pakistan Peoples Party has only given the people of Lyari broken promises, gang wars and a mirage of a better tomorrow with absolutely zero performance.”
