Mian Channu: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz made a heartfelt visit to javelin star Arshad Nadeem in his hometown of Mian Channu on Tuesday. She personally handed him a cheque for Rs100 million, celebrating his incredible Olympic gold medal win. Arshad made history last week in Paris with a record-breaking 92.97-meter throw, earning Pakistan’s first Olympic gold in 40 years.
Arriving by helicopter, Maryam Nawaz was warmly welcomed by Arshad and his family. She not only presented Arshad with the cheque but also a Honda Civic with a special registration number, PAK-92.97, to honor his achievement. The chief minister took a moment to chat with Arshad’s mother and express her admiration for their journey.
Maryam also recognized Arshad’s coach, Salman Iqbal Butt, with a Rs5 million cheque for his dedication. The visit was a joyous occasion, attended by key government officials, and highlighted Arshad’s remarkable contribution to Pakistani sports.
In addition to these celebrations, the Athletics Federation of Pakistan announced that Arshad and his family will receive Umrah packages, allowing them to perform the pilgrimage after the festivities. It’s a fitting tribute to an athlete who has truly inspired the nation.
