KARACHI, July 4: Rotary District 3271 officially began its 2026–27 Rotary year on Saturday. The district installed Shahzad Sabir as District Governor during a ceremony at the Marquee, PC Hotel Karachi. More than 1,000 Rotarians, diplomats, business leaders and community representatives attended the event.
The district introduced several flagship service projects for the new Rotary year. These include the Million Trees Project to promote environmental sustainability. The District Medical Outreach Programme will expand healthcare services. Rotary also pledged stronger support for Pakistan’s polio eradication campaign.

Other initiatives include Pink Washrooms to improve menstrual hygiene and sanitation for women and girls. The district will also expand hearing aid programmes for people with hearing impairment. Breast cancer awareness campaigns will encourage early screening and prevention.
Rotary District 3271 also reaffirmed its commitment to developing Rotary Pakistan Smart Villages. The programme focuses on education, healthcare, livelihoods, digital access and environmental sustainability. It aims to improve living standards through integrated community development.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the launch of the commemorative book, 100 Years of Rotary Service in Pakistan. The publication documents a century of Rotary’s humanitarian work and leadership across the country.
Syed Kashif Rafi led the compilation and editorial development of the book. He launched the publication alongside Muhammad Faiz Kidwai, M. Iqbal Qureshi, Aziz Memon, Shakeel Kaim Khani and Shahzad Sabir. The team presented a special hardbound edition to Jennifer A. Scott, Director 2025–27 of Rotary International.
The district also launched its official website and mobile application. The new digital platforms will strengthen communication, governance, volunteer engagement and service reporting.
Jennifer A. Scott attended the event as chief guest. Senior Rotary leaders from Pakistan and overseas also joined the ceremony. They included Aziz Memon, Muhammad Faiz Kidwai, M. Iqbal Qureshi, Shakeel Kaim Khani and Dr. Aftab Imam.
Earlier in the day, Rotary installed assistant governors, club presidents, secretaries and district chairs. The appointments strengthened the district’s leadership team for the new Rotary year.
The district also announced its leadership team for 2026–27. It includes District Governor Elect Ch. Fahad Sikandar, District Governor Nominee Abdul Jabbar Sheikh, District Secretary Arif Siddiqui and District Treasurer Ravi Kumar. Several deputy governors, committee leaders and district officials were also introduced.
An advisory council will support Shahzad Sabir throughout the year. The council includes Muhammad Hanif Khan, Syed Kashif Rafi, Waqar Ahmed Shaikh, Atiqua Vally and Mirza Abbas. Sumaira Shahzad, First Lady of the District Governor, also attended the ceremony.
The programme began with a recitation from the Holy Quran. Guests then observed the national anthems of Pakistan and Australia. Rotary leaders delivered speeches before the installation of the district team. Cultural performances, commemorative presentations and a fellowship dinner concluded the event.
Bank Alfalah, World Wide Group, MMI Hospital, Dr. Essa Laboratories & Diagnostic Centre and Shahenshah partnered with Rotary District 3271 to support the event.
In his inaugural address, Shahzad Sabir pledged to expand sustainable community service across Sindh and Balochistan. He said Rotary would strengthen partnerships, promote volunteer leadership, engage more young people and launch innovative projects to address social, health, education and environmental challenges.
