KARACHI: Pakistan Rangers (Sindh), in a joint intelligence-based operation with the Sindh Police, arrested an alleged extortionist from the Lyari area on Wednesday, officials said.

According to an official statement, the suspect was identified as Nasir, alias Nana, son of Taj Muhammad. During initial interrogation, he confessed to involvement in extortion activities along with an accomplice.
Authorities said the suspect had sent an extortion slip demanding Rs1.2 million and two 30-bore pistol bullets to a rent-a-car owner through a parcel delivered via a private ride-hailing service.
The accused also allegedly made threatening calls via WhatsApp, warning the victim of death and serious consequences if the demanded amount was not paid.
Officials confirmed that raids are ongoing to apprehend the suspect’s accomplices, while a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the relevant police station.
The arrested suspect has been handed over to police for further legal proceedings.
The Rangers spokesperson urged citizens to report such criminal activities by contacting the nearest Rangers check post, helpline 1101, or the Rangers Madadgar WhatsApp number, assuring that the identity of informants will remain confidential.
