The Punjab Directorate of Public Instruction (Colleges) has officially banned dancing and other activities deemed “unethical” in both public and private colleges across the province.
A notification issued by the department states that all forms of “unethical and vulgar activities” are now prohibited, reinforcing a strict educational environment. The Higher Education Department emphasized that such activities do not align with the principles of quality education.
The decision comes after reports of students and teachers dancing on stage and in classrooms during fun fairs, sports galas, and other events, often to Indian songs, which authorities deemed inappropriate for academic institutions.
College directors and principals have been ordered to strictly enforce the ban, with strict consequences for non-compliance. Instead, institutions have been encouraged to promote extracurricular activities that align with cultural and educational values.
This is not the first such restriction in Punjab. In the past, the government has also banned mobile phone usage and similar activities in schools and colleges, as part of ongoing efforts to regulate student behavior in educational institutions.
