Polling for the by-elections in 8 constituencies of the National Assembly and 3 constituencies of the Punjab Assembly will be held today.
By-elections are being held in NA 22 Mardan, NA 24 Charsadda, NA 31 Peshawar, NA 108 Faisalabad, NA 118 Nankana Sahib, NA 157 Multan, NA 237 Malir Karachi and NA 239 Korangi Karachi.
By-elections will also be held in the Punjab Assembly Constituencies PP 139 Sheikhupura, PP 209 Khanewal and PP 241 Bahawalnagar.
Mardan, Charsadda, Peshawar, Multan and Faisalabad are expected to have a big contest for the National Assembly seats.
NA 22 Mardan
The NA-22 Mardan seat fell vacant after the resignation of PTI’s Ali Muhammad Khan. In the by-election, Chairman PTI Imran Khan himself is a candidate from this constituency.
In this seat Maulana Qasim of JUI and Abdul Wasi of Jamaat-e-Islami are against Imran Khan, the total number of registered votes is 4 lakh 71 thousand 184, political activities in the constituency are on the rise.
NA 24 Char Sedah
NA 24 Char Sada seat fell vacant due to the resignation of PTI candidate Fazal Muhammad, Chairman PTI Imran Khan is also contesting from this constituency.
ANP’s Amil Wali Khan and Jamaat-e-Islami’s Mujeebur Rehman are also major candidates. The total number of registered voters in this constituency is 526 thousand 862. The number of male voters is 2 lakh 91 thousand 16 and the number of female voters is 235846. A total of 384 polling stations have been set up in the constituency.
NA 157 Multan
NA 157 Multan seat was vacant after Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s son Zain Qureshi was sworn in as provincial assembly.
With 8 candidates contesting from NA-157, PTI’s Mehr Bano Qureshi and PDM-backed Ali Musa Geelani are expected to face a tough fight. Tehreek-e-Labaik candidate Tahir Ahmed and five other independent candidates are also contesting. The number of registered voters here is 462205.
NA 108 Faisalabad
NA 108 Faisalabad seat became vacant due to resignation of PTI MLA Farrukh Habib. He is against Imran Khan as a candidate.
The total number of registered voters in the constituency is 5 lakh 5 thousand 186. The number of male voters is 2 lakh 71 thousand 39 and the number of female voters is 2 lakh 34 thousand 147.
NA 118 Nankana Sahib
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan is contesting in NA-118 Nankana Sahib, while PDM’s candidate Dr. Shazra Mansab, TLP’s Afzal Ahmed Rizvi are contesting against him.
The total number of voters in NA 118 is 450 thousand 810, of which 250 thousand 871 are male, 199 thousand 939 are female voters, 319 polling stations have been set up in the constituency.
NA 31 Peshawar
The seat of Peshawar Constituency NA 31 fell vacant after the resignation of Shaukat Ali who won on a PTI ticket.
8 candidates including Chairman PTI Imran Khan and senior leader of Awami National Party Ghulam Ahmad Bilor are contesting for this seat.
The population of the constituency is 8 lakh 56 thousand 609 while the number of voters is 4 lakh 73 thousand 180. Among the total voters, there are 2 lakh 62 thousand 289 males and 2 lakh 10 thousand 891 females.
265 polling stations have been established in the constituency. In 2013, NA31 was called NA1. After new constituencies in 2018, it was renamed as NA 31 Peshawar.
Polling will continue from 8 am to 5 pm without any break. The notification for the deployment of Rangers, FC and Pak Army has been issued.
