ISLAMABAD: A petition has been submitted to the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging the recent increase in petrol prices by Rs55 per litre.
The petitioner Azhar Siddique of the Judicial Activism Panel, has argued that the significant hike in fuel prices is unjustified, particularly in light of the country’s existing 15-day fuel reserves. The petition requests the court to review and potentially reverse the government’s decision to raise petrol prices.
The petitioner questioned the rationale behind the price surge, suggesting that with sufficient reserves available, there should not have been an immediate need for such a substantial increase. The petition further calls for an inquiry into the process and factors that led to the decision to raise fuel prices by this margin.
The Lahore High Court is expected to take up the matter in the coming days.
