Pakistan Keeps Petrol and Diesel Prices Steady, Raises Kerosene Rates Amid Global Oil Surge

The government has decided to maintain petrol and high-speed diesel prices for the coming week, shielding consumers from rising global oil rates. However, kerosene oil prices have been increased, according to a notification from the Petroleum Division.

Petrol will continue to sell at Rs321.17 per litre, and high-speed diesel will remain at Rs335.86 per litre. Officials said the government will absorb the financial burden caused by global price hikes, paying the difference to oil marketing companies itself.

Kerosene Price Hike
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) raised kerosene prices by Rs4.66 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs433.40 per litre. Last week, kerosene was priced at Rs428.74 per litre, meaning consumers using kerosene will face higher costs despite relief on petrol and diesel.

The revised fuel prices will take effect from midnight and remain valid for the next week, following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s announcement to maintain petrol and diesel rates.

Government Strategy and Relief Measures
Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb chaired a meeting on petroleum pricing, emphasizing immediate public relief if global oil prices decline. The meeting also focused on transparency, data-driven decision-making, and stronger federal-provincial cooperation.

Officials highlighted that petroleum supply in Pakistan remains stable and sufficient. Proposals for implementing targeted subsidies using technology were also reviewed, alongside calls from provincial representatives to encourage fuel conservation and lifestyle adjustments.

The finance minister stressed careful economic management due to limited government resources and reiterated the importance of subsidy reforms, while maintaining public relief and economic stability.
