Pakistan has strongly protested India’s blocking of Twitter accounts by summoning the Indian charge d’affaires.
According to a Foreign Office spokesman, the protest was sparked by India’s blocking of 80 Twitter accounts. India blocked accounts of Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Pakistan’s diplomatic mission to the United Nations and Pakistan’s diplomatic mission in New York.
The Foreign Office spokesman said that India also blocked the broadcasts of Radio Pakistan through geo-blocking. The Indian charge d’affaires was told that the measures were against international standards.
According to the spokesperson, India was asked to immediately withdraw the move to block the Twitter accounts of the diplomatic mission and the Indian charge d’affaires was told that it was against the principles and framework of information flow.
According to the Foreign Office, the Indian move reflects the dangerous pace at which fundamental freedoms in India are being curtailed.
