KARACHI, APRIL 17, 2024: The Karachi Film Society (KFS) and Habib University hosted the Pakistan Media Summit 2024, gathering policymakers, industry leaders, and academia. The second day started with host Tazeen Hussain recapping the first day, followed by a fireside chat with filmmaker Haya Fatima
Iqbal and Carol Ann Noronha.


Carol shared her experience in international film festivals and her journey as a filmmaker, emphasizing the importance of building strong teams and maintaining open communication on set. She stressed the need for resilience, mentorship, and care for the crew, offering valuable insights for emerging filmmakers.


Ameena Saiyid, Managing Director Lightstone Publishers & Founder and Director Adab Festival, praised the discussion and shared her experience with previous film festivals, highlighting the importance of audience reception and engagement.


Another session on “Intellectual Copyrights and the Untapped Potential of Pakistan Music” included journalist Rafay Mahmood, singer Asim Azhar, and others. They discussed challenges in the music industry, stressing on the importance of legal protections for artists and exploring the potential for growth.


A panel on “Why so Serious? – Lack of Comedy in Mainstream Media” featured filmmaker Murtaza Chaudhry, actress Bushra Ansari, and others. They discussed the complexities of creating comedy in mainstream media and the advantages of digital platforms for creativity.


The last session, “How to Increase the Soft Power of Pakistan,” was moderated by journalist and political commentator, Amber Shamsi and included panelists such as Shahera Shahid, Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting.


HE Cemal Sangu, Consul General of Türkiye, Javed Jabbar, an award-winning writer and filmmaker, policy analyst and former senator and federal minister, Dr. Moeed Yusuf, a political scientist and Wasif Rizvi, Vice Chancellor, Habib University.


They discussed strategies to enhance Pakistan’s image and influence through media, culture, and education. The second part of the last session included the Moderator Amber Shamsi, with Sultana Siddiqui (President HUM Network), Bilal Maqsood (Music Producer & Music Composer) and Satish Anand (Chairman Of Eveready Group Of Companies) as panelists.


The Pakistan Media Summit 2024 concluded on a successfully note, providing valuable insights on filmmaking, music, comedy, and Pakistan’s soft power.


The event facilitated collaboration among policymakers, industry leaders, and academia, with Sultana Siddiqui, President, HUM Network, praising the Summit and expressing optimism for the industry’s future growth.
