Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi visited Yangzhou city in Jiangsu province from April 23–24, 2026, in a bid to strengthen Pakistan–China cooperation in investment, trade, agriculture, and emerging technologies.
During his visit, the ambassador held meetings with Yangzhou Party Secretary Wang Jinjian and Mayor Zheng Haitao, where both sides discussed expanding business-to-business (B2B) linkages and enhancing institutional cooperation under existing provincial partnerships.
Ambassador Hashmi proposed greater utilisation of the Punjab–Jiangsu sister-province framework, along with regular investment roadshows, enterprise exchanges, and facilitation of mutual business delegations to deepen economic engagement between the two countries.
Both sides agreed to explore new opportunities in key sectors, including agriculture modernization, new energy, information technology, automotive manufacturing, chemical engineering, advanced materials, and battery storage systems.
Visit to Leading Agricultural Technology Firm
As part of his engagements, Ambassador Hashmi visited FAMSUN, a leading Yangzhou-based enterprise specialising in integrated agricultural solutions.
He was briefed by FAMSUN President Chen Zhengjun on the company’s advanced Smart Park system, which focuses on resource efficiency, energy optimisation, and environmental sustainability.
The ambassador appreciated FAMSUN’s expanding footprint in Pakistan and encouraged further collaboration in agricultural mechanisation, agro-processing, dairy development, and technical training.
Focus on Agriculture and Food Security
Ambassador Hashmi also participated in the China–Pakistan Agricultural Modernization and Food Security Innovation Cooperation Forum held on April 24.
In his remarks, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to transforming its agriculture sector through mechanisation, improved seed development, resilient supply chains, microfinance access, and vocational training initiatives.
He invited Chinese companies to explore investment opportunities in precision agriculture, cold-chain logistics, digital farming technologies, and dairy processing industries.
Senior representatives from Irritech, Zoomlion, and FAMSUN presented their technologies and engaged in detailed discussions with Pakistani officials on potential areas of collaboration.
Strategic Importance of Yangzhou
Yangzhou, a major industrial and cultural centre in Jiangsu province, is strategically located at the intersection of the Grand Canal and the Yangtze River. With a population of nearly five million, the city hosts six major industrial clusters and has developed into a strong manufacturing and tourism hub, with a GDP exceeding $100 billion and industrial output above $140 billion.
Strengthening Bilateral Economic Partnership
The visit reflects Pakistan’s continued efforts to deepen economic and technological cooperation with China, particularly in agriculture and industrial development. Both sides expressed optimism that increased collaboration will enhance value chains, promote innovation, and strengthen long-term bilateral economic ties.
