KARACHI: Pro Vice Chancellor, Dow University of Health Sciences, Professor Sarah Qazi has said “future avenues for biotechnology students in Pakistan have opened new doors of development. Research is the need of the day, in the field of research we have encourage students and provide them with all possible support, because research is the weapon that helps fight diseases and opens new avenues of knowledge. Dow College of Biotechnology is having the first public sector “Fly Lab” in Pakistan and this is such a great honor for Dow University. Pharmacy is an integral part of the health care system and its students also play an important role in the health care system”. She expressed her thoughts while addressing at Orientation Day ceremonies of BS Biotechnology and Pharm-D Session 2023, in which, apart from teachers, a large number of students and parents were presented. The Orientation Day celebrations were addressed by Prof. Sambal Shamim, Prof. Muhammad Mushtaq, and others, while senior students in Dow College of Biotechnology enlightened the freshers with their pleasant experiences and observations of their time as students.
Professor Sarah Kazi urged the new pharmacy students to interact with their seniors to boost their confidence. She said that we train our students best in the five-year pharmacy program, so that they become proficient in professional skills. She congratulated the new students for becoming a part of Dow University and said that all this was possible due to your hard work, passion, dedication and interest of parents.
Principal Dow College of Pharmacy, Prof. Sumbul Shammim said that the first batch of Dow College of Pharmacy started in 2008, and today we are inaugurating the (16) morning and (9) ninth batch of evening. She said that in this era of competition, efforts are being made to improve education, research, medicine and facilities everywhere, apart from Pharm-D, M-Phil and PHD programs are also being offered here. Those students who come to us today with the hope of success, their dream will surely come true, today you have chosen the best university of Pakistan for your higher education, our students are working on vital positions in prestigious institutions of the country. She further said that there is a need for more innovation in pharma medicine, which will definitely be in your hands, we will continue to provide our full support to you for this purpose.
Addressing the students at Dow College of Biotechnology, Professor Sara Kazi said that after knowing about the achievements of biotechnology, I would feel that if I had another chance, I would become a professor of biotechnology instead of a professor of gynecology, as there is a lot of researches and development of human life saving vaccines and medicines in Biotechnology. Professor Mohammad Mushtaq, principal of Dow College of Biotechnology, said that after the establishment of the fly lab in the university, a journey has begun, which has its destination to the Nobel Prize, as Nobel Prize is mostly given to the those experiments which are practiced on living organisms and this is the highest ratio in any sector. He said that one of the attributes of the world’s top universities is the presence of a fly lab, which means that those universities get top ranking based on their researches and fly research has a major contribution in it.
