TANDO ALLAHYAR – Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has announced a new oil discovery at its Chakar-1 field in Tando Allahyar, with initial production capacity estimated at 275 barrels of crude oil per day.
An official statement released on Friday revealed that drilling operations reached a depth of 1,926 meters to locate the oil reserves. This marks OGDC’s 13th successful oil discovery in the region, reinforcing the area’s significance in Pakistan’s energy sector. OGDC holds a 95% operational stake in the project, while Government Holdings Limited retains the remaining 5%.
The discovery has generated optimism in energy circles, particularly in light of past announcements, including a statement from former U.S. President Donald Trump, which had previously fueled expectations about Pakistan’s untapped oil wealth.
Notably, similar discoveries were made in September last year following an extensive three-year sea survey conducted in collaboration with a friendly nation. The survey confirmed the presence of substantial oil and gas reserves within Pakistan’s territorial domain, with detailed assessments made regarding their volume and locations.
