The Election Commission has decided to postpone the municipal elections in Karachi.
According to the Election Commission, the meeting regarding the decision of the election in Karachi will be held again after 15 days.
The Election Commission said that the date of local body elections will be decided in the meeting, making every possible effort to hold local body elections in Karachi.
Yesterday, a meeting was held with the secretary of the Ministry of Interior for the Karachi municipal elections. The Ministry of Interior was asked to ensure the provision of army and rangers for the peaceful conduct of the elections.
The Election Commission says that the Ministry of Home Affairs informed that the Army and Rangers cannot perform duty at the polling stations due to lack of police personnel.
Told in writing that the Army and Rangers would be available as quick response forces, the Election Commission had no option but to postpone the elections for the time being.
In this regard, the Election Commission said that the Sindh government had told that most of the polling stations in Karachi are either sensitive or very sensitive, the Sindh government has a shortage of 16 thousand 785 police personnel.
Due to lack of police personnel, the Sindh government had requested to postpone the elections for 3 months, the Sindh government had proposed to fill the shortage of 16 thousand police personnel with the army and Rangers.
It should be noted that local elections in Karachi were to be held on October 23.
