Masooma-e-Sindh Shrine: Officials Assure Removal of Construction Hurdles Within a Week
Sindh Auqaf minister and chief administrator pledge action as Zaireen Khidmat Committee and Karachi Editors Club raise concerns over prolonged delays
Officials assure action to remove hurdles delaying construction of the Masooma-e-Sindh shrine at Agham Kot.
KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Auqaf Syed Riaz Hussain Shah Shirazi and Chief Administrator Auqaf Sindh Hyderabad Mukhtar Hussain Abro have assured that hurdles delaying the government-funded construction of the shrine of Bibi Maham, popularly known as Masooma-e-Sindh, will be addressed within a week.
The assurance came during a meeting of the Zaireen Khidmat Committee Agham Kot, held in Karachi in collaboration with the Karachi Editors Club (KEC).
Committee member Brigadier (Retd) Syed Karrar Hussain Abidi contacted the provincial minister and the Auqaf chief administrator by telephone during the meeting. He briefed them on the delays and difficulties surrounding the construction project.
Both officials listened to the concerns and assured the committee that the outstanding issues would be resolved within seven days.
Committee Raises Concerns Over Delays
The meeting, chaired by Syed Manzar Naqvi, expressed serious concern over the slow progress of construction.

Participants alleged that the project had faced repeated delays because of technical issues, revisions in government construction rates and administrative complications.
They also raised concerns about the performance of the government contractor and the level of supervision by relevant authorities.
According to participants, the committee and organisations representing Azadars across Sindh have repeatedly highlighted the slow pace of work and urged the Auqaf Department and other authorities to intervene.
Repeated Assurances Raise Frustration
Participants said authorities had previously given several assurances to accelerate construction. However, they alleged that progress slowed again after protests and public pressure subsided.
The meeting was told that three to four assurances had recently been given to complete important stages of the project before Ayyam-e-Aza. Participants said the promised work remained incomplete even after the mourning period ended.
They further claimed that only three labourers had been working at the site during the previous 15 to 20 days. According to the participants, work on filling a single column had also progressed at an extremely slow pace.
The situation, they said, raised questions about the monitoring mechanisms and government oversight of the project.
Demand for Immediate Action
The participants called on the Auqaf authorities and the contractor to turn the latest one-week assurance into concrete action.
They demanded that all outstanding hurdles be removed, construction work accelerated and effective government supervision ensured.
The meeting stressed that the shrine project should be completed without further unnecessary delays to facilitate visitors and Zaireen.
The meeting was attended by Brigadier (Retd) Syed Karrar Hussain Abidi, senior journalists Nazir Leghari, Mubasher Mir and Syed Kamal Amrohi, diplomat Hassan Habib, Syed Shabbar Naqvi, Akif Ashar, Ali Zaib, Ahmed Malik and others.
Participants from Hyderabad, Agham Kot, Mirpurkhas and Tando Jam also joined through Zoom. They included Zawar Abdul Sattar Dars, Ghulam Haider Leghari, Advocate Dr Mir Ejaz Ali Talpur and Mir Imdad Ali Talpur, who shared their concerns and suggestions.
The Zaireen Khidmat Committee said it would closely monitor developments following the officials’ assurance and urged authorities to ensure that construction work moves forward without further interruption.
