The Election Commission rejected the Sindh government’s request to postpone the Local Government Elections. The Election Commission of Pakistan says that the second phase of LG elections in Sindh will be held on January 15.
An important meeting was held at the Election Commission of Pakistan under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja.
In the meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, Sindh’s application and notifications were considered.
The Election Commission declared that the LG Elections in Karachi Division, Hyderabad, and other districts will be held on January 15 as per the schedule.
The Election Commission requested that the Ministry of Home Affairs ensure the deployment of the army and rangers at the most sensitive polling stations.
According to the sources, apart from local government elections in Karachi and Hyderabad, the issue of the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly is also being considered in the meeting.
Meanwhile, last night the Sindh government, accepting the demands of MQM, announced the postponement of the local government elections to be held in Karachi, Hyderabad, and Dadu on January 15 and the withdrawal of the notification of constituencies.
On the other side, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi signed the summary of the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly after which the Punjab Assembly was dissolved.
