Islamabad: In view of the forthcoming Muharram 9 processions in Islamabad, the police have made the necessary preparations for the traffic management plan. The plan seeks to facilitate the flow and safety of the participants and other commuters during the course of the religious activities.
The authorities including IG Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi, DIG Islamabad Syed Ali Raza, and CTO Muhammad Sarfraz Virk have declared snap-specific road closure and traffic plan and specific routes for the main procession starting from Mian Imambargah in G/6-2.
Some of the changes include blocking Fazal Haq Road for other vehicles from Polyclinic to Kulsoom Plaza. However, the citizens are encouraged to use Jinnah Avenue to get from Kulsoom Plaza to China Chowk. Furthermore, 7th Avenue will be closed on both sides starting from Daman Koh Chowk to Chand Tara Chowk and from Blue Area out loop up to 7th Avenue Chowk Suhrawardy. Some of the parallel roads that have been provided for normal traffic movement include the Urban Alternate Road, Jinnah Avenue, Suhrawardy Road, and Margalla Road.
The traffic management plan also includes modifications along Sadar Road, which will be closed between Iqbal Hall and Melody Chowk on both sides. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek an alternative route by using Abpara Suhrawardy Road. Municipal Road from Lal Masjid to Shahada Chowk and GPO Chowk will also be closed and the alternative route suggested will be Shaheed Millat Road. Moreover, Luqman Hakeem Road from Polyclinic to Iqbal Hall will also be closed but Jinnah Avenue is another option available.
The detailed route map of Islamabad depicts these closures and other routes to enable residents and visitors to maneuver during the procession activities.
Law enforcement agencies appeal to the public to obey traffic signals and directions for the safety and security of everyone involved in this important religious celebration. These are preventive measures meant to reduce interference while providing for smooth and violence-free observation of the Muharram 9 procession in Islamabad.
