Islamabad: The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Saturday said the US should not push Pakistan into economic crisis but use its influence in Afghanistan to resolve its own problems.
Cooperation with Pakistan can help the US avoid a crushing defeat in Afghanistan while ensuring peace and stability in the region, it said.
Incoming Prime Minister Imran Khan has always supported talks with Afghan Taliban while after seventeen long years and sustaining heavy losses America has also initiated negotiations with Taliban, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President PEW.
He said that Imran Khan has always opposed US-led war against terror which has earned him respect in Pakistan and among the Afghan Taliban, therefore, they would listen to him.
His soft corner towards Taliban is not his weakness but strength which should be used by American to come out of the Afghanistan where a defeat seems imminent, he added.
Dr. Murtaza Mughal said that the US should stop destabilizing Pakistan and should no more see everything with an Afghan perspective.
US withdrawal from Afghanistan will also help Pakistan in many ways and it will reduce terrorism, narcotics and the influx of refugees.
He noted that Pakistan is better suited for negotiations between American and Taliban than Qatar and Imran Khan will definitely help the peace process without compromising Pakistan’s interests.
The US should not waste the golden opportunity for peace in Afghanistan which will also improve Pak-US relations and resolve many problems, he said.
