Karachi, December, 2025: After months of laborious work by Habib University’s library and IT teams, the University formally announces the launch of the Pakistan History Bibliography – a major new digital resource, expanding global access to research on Pakistan’s past, made possible by collaborative scholarship and the
University’s dedication to open knowledge. Students, teachers, and history enthusiasts are invited to explore and share this publicly viewable database.
The website can be accessed at: habib.edu.pk/pakistanhistorybibliography/ Advanced search options can be used to filter content by author name or subject area (e.g., Railways, Freedom Movement, Elections, Pashtuns, etc) by users seeking to explore specific areas of interest. This curated bibliography presently comprises nearly 600 scholarly works, including books, articles, and digital curations. This, of course, is just a start! The site contains a “Submit a Source” feature, inviting historians to contribute their published scholarship to this dynamic and living academic resource and help the archive grow, and more fully reflect the diverse range and depth of existent
historical work relevant to the study of Pakistan.
Dr. Sana Haroon (Professor of History & Asian Studies, University of Massachusetts Boston), is the curator of the bibliography, and the force and vision behind it. Gathering hundreds of relevant submissions from her fellow authors, she compiled them into a browsable document with the help of her students at UMass Boston. Habib University’s Library and IT teams then laboured hard to transform this document into a globally accessible, searchable digital archive, and added clickable access links to each entry, enabling researchers to quickly locate and download materials through their home institutions.
The Pakistan History Bibliography is an exciting new addition to Pakistan’s scholarly landscape. As professional historical research on this region grows and matures, Habib University hopes this website can become an active hub for showcasing existing scholarship and inspiring the new. Ultimately, the website’s aim is to increase access
and awareness for all high-quality print and web-based academic resources helpful for research on Pakistan’s history.
