Karachi : Renowned businessman and founder/chairman of Pakistan Business Group, Faraz ur Rehman, has expressed concern over the rising inflation, unemployment, and increasing prices of electricity and gas, which have plunged the public into economic distress and deprived them of their right to live. He stated that the government has not controlled anything, neither the rate nor the reserves, as everyday essentials continue to become more expensive due to daily self-imposed and unwarranted increases by retailers, further troubling the impoverished citizens.
Rehman voiced these concerns during an informal conversation with the media at the conclusion ceremony of the Quran recitation event organized by Hamza Yousuf Tabani. Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori was also present at the event. Rehman remarked that during the holy month of Ramadan, retailers are profiteering at the expense of the public, while the administrative machinery remains a silent spectator. He questioned the government, asking how long the public would continue to purchase expensive goods. He emphasized that instead of charity, the Pakistan Business Group advocates for promoting business.
Rehman praised the Pakistan Start-up Fund, suggesting that rather than income support for the poor, a Business Support Fund should be established. He mentioned that currently, there are over four thousand startups operating in the country, and in the past four years, Pakistani startups have attracted nearly $800 million in foreign investments.
