In honor of Women’s History Month, we applaud inspiring heroes making a difference in Pakistan. Meet with the Football Fatima Ansari.
Fatima Ansari was born on 12 June 1995 in Karachi. She is a football player from Pakistan. Fatima plays as a midfielder for Pakistan’s national women’s football team as well as for her club; Young Rising Stars F.F.C. Fatima Ansari started her playing career with Diya Women Football Club in 2008 and is an alumna of the U.S. Government-sponsored India-Pakistan Soccer Visitors Program of 2012.
In October 2014, as preparation for the SAFF Championships, she participated in a three-match-friendly series against hosts, Bahrain. Ansari participated in the 3rd SAFF Women’s Championship held in Islamabad in November 2014, where she played in all three of Pakistan’s games. She currently played football from WAPDA as a midfielder.
“Visiting the United States as part of the sports exchange program was the turning point of my life. The encouragement and confidence I received during that time inspired me to pursue professional football. My message for other young girls like me is to follow your dreams no matter what,” says Fatima.
Recently, WAPDA beat Hazara Quetta Football Academy 6-0 at KPT Stadium. Shanzay Nazir scored twice for WAPDA to give last year’s semi-finalists their third win on the trot in Group A. Mehnaz Shah, Sanober, Fatima Ansari and Kainat Gul hit one goal apiece.
