ISLAMABAD : HEC Pakistan, in partnership with the British Council, has finalized the RESEARCH EXCELLENCE FRAMEWORK (REF) for Pakistan. Following a rigorous five-day consultative workshop with experts from the University of Sussex, HEC is moving toward a more transparent, accountable, and world-class research ecosystem.
What is the REF?
The REF is a strategic policy designed to evaluate and enhance:
Research Quality: Aligning our universities with international standards.
Environment: Strengthening the governance and digital systems of our institutions.
Real-World Impact: Ensuring research creates tangible socio-economic benefits for Pakistan.
REF is set to pilot in 10 selected universities before a full-scale national roll-out. This phase will refine our assessment models, focusing on research outputs and societal impact to ensure our academic contributions are globally competitive.
This milestone, achieved under the Pak-UK Education Gateway, marks a transformative step in maximizing the impact of publicly funded research.
