CAIRO – In a stunning twist that has shocked Egypt’s social media landscape, one of TikTok’s most popular female influencers, known online as “Yasmin,” has been unmasked as an 18-year-old male student named Abdul Rahman.
The revelation came after authorities received a flood of complaints regarding Yasmin’s bold dance videos. Police summoned the influencer for questioning, where it was discovered that behind the glamorous online persona was Rahman, a teenager from a small village and a student at a tourism and hotel management institute.
Rahman admitted to creating the fake identity in order to gain followers and earn money on TikTok. His confession stunned both his local community and the millions of fans who believed they were engaging with a young female content creator.
Following the discovery, a local court placed Rahman in custody for four days before later releasing him on bail. Egyptian authorities confirmed that he now faces charges of impersonating a woman and publishing immoral content, in line with the government’s intensified crackdown on so-called “immoral” behavior on social media platforms.
Neighbors and acquaintances described Rahman as a generally shy and ordinary student, adding to the shock surrounding the case. Meanwhile, the incident has reignited debates in Egypt about online deception, digital fame, and the boundaries of state regulation on social media.
