Karachi: The training unit of the Dow Skill Development Center has been reactivated in the Dow University of Health Sciences, after being inactive for more than 10 years. In which more than 200 people will be trained annually for sewing, cutting, embroidery and designing according to the needs of the textile industry. In this regard, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed in which Registrar Dr. Ashar Afaq signed on behalf of Dow University, while Bushra Amir signed on behalf of Blossom Home Textiles. Vice Chancellor DUHS Professor Muhammad Saeed Quraishy, Director IBM Professor Izhar Hussain, Manager Dow Skill Development Center Farhan Khan, Marketing Head Umair Zafar and others were also present on this occasion. It is worth mentioning here that Dow University of Health Sciences established a unit under Dow Skill Development Center in 2010 as a social responsibility to stabilize the people living around the Ojha campus in academic, social and economic terms. After the lack of attention, the unit gradually became inactive as a result. Now, the unit has been reactivated after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Dow University of Health Sciences and Blossom Textiles for underprivileged youth. This inactive unit has been activated in the shortest possible time after the direction of Vice Chancellor Prof. Muhammad Saeed Quraishy, and the first MoU has also been signed in this regards.

According to the Manager of Dow Skill Development Center, Farhan Khan, more technical facilities will also be provided under Dow Skill Development Center. The purpose of this MoU is to provide employment opportunities to the youth, especially women, and soon a textile unit based on modern style and technology will be established, out of which more than 200 people will be trained annually. The trainees will also be provided employment in the learning center while others can opt for advanced training and self-employment while the products produced in the unit of professionals and trainees will be sold domestically and internationally.
