KARACHI – SnackVideo, the leading global short-video platform, and RINSTRA, Pakistan’s first short-form digital media platform for on-demand streaming and user-generated original content, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote digital media content creation in Pakistan. The MOU was signed by SnackVideo Country Head, Naeemudin Syed, and Amir Jahangir, Chief Executive Officer of RINSTRA Technologies. Through this Memorandum of Understanding, RINSTRA will promote its young content creators for entertainment-based content on the SnackVideo platform. This initiative will create engagement and encourage the production of quality digital content. Both parties are confident that with this partnership more innovation in content development will be strengthened in the digital storytelling ecosystem in Pakistan.
Country Head SnackVideo Naeemudin Syed on the signing of the partnership said, “The media industry needs to recognize new content creation techniques, and innovative ways to engage the youth is crucial for the content economy. SnackVideo Pakistan is working hard to provide better quality content and earning opportunities to Pakistani youth. The youth in Pakistan has great potential and our partnership with RINSTRA will prove to be a pivot point for Pakistan’s digital media industry. We are aiming to create more space for expression while generating monetization opportunities for our content creators.“
Amir Jahangir Chief Executive Officer RINSTRA Technologies said “New digital media trends require us to change our content approach, its format, audience identification, and outreach. This means bringing new technologies onboard, and developing new platforms, all the while keeping in mind the prevalent poor attention span and increased information influx. We are confident this partnership will set new benchmarks for the industry to follow.”
RINSTRA is the outcome of the thought leadership of Dice Foundation USA’s Creative Arts and Media Initiative (DICE CAM). It is part of the Dice Foundation’s National Innovation Basket (NIB) program, which aims to create media as a cornerstone of Pakistan’s growth strategy.
RINSTRA is Pakistan’s first short-form digital media platform for on-demand streaming and for the creation of user-generated original content on iRINSTRA. The organization provides entrepreneurship opportunities to emerging and established content creators and filmmakers in Pakistan and beyond. It also has a feature for Content Competition where more than 100 academic institutions in Pakistan are competing in various thematic areas. The Fest feature of the application has provided some of the leading Film Festivals to partner with RINSTRA for digital viewing of their films and documentaries. This has created an unprecedented experience for viewers in the country.
With the changing demographics, content consumption patterns, and technological development, storytelling techniques are also evolving globally and in Pakistan. Pakistan is host to the fifth largest population in the world with 65% population below the age of 18.
SnackVideo is an online short video platform that allows its users to create short bite-sized videos showing their daily activities, habits, various talents, and skills. SnackVideo’s parent organization is Kuaishou Technology, a popular Chinese technology company backed by Tencent. Kauishou announced its IPO in February 2021, which made it the second-best debut for a large IPO. SnackVideo, with Kuaishou, aims to empower creators across Pakistan to virtually enable them to engage with fans from all walks of life.
In Pakistan, smartphones, internet, and social media penetration are lower than global standards. However, the number of internet users in this segment of the population (76.3 million with 22.8 years as the median age) makes it significant and one of the fastest-growing markets for content consumption and generation both. This young lot is disconnected from the traditional media outlets and has mobile screens as their primary source of entertainment, education and communication. The internet interaction shift from words to multimedia is a strong indicator of how the future of interaction is evolving. With the increase in audio-visual content and growing AI conversions, even the illiterate segment can handle digital media well.
