KARACHI – Deputy Commissioner Korangi Shadia Jaffar called on Korangi Association of Trade & Industry (KATI) and assured to major progresses to resolve basic administrative problems of Korangi Industrial Area (KIA). President KATI Danish Khan, Senior Vice President Farac-ur-Rehman, Chairman & CEO KITE Zubair Chhaya, Vice President Maheen Salman, Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan, Former Presidents Gulzar Firoze, Farhan-ur-Rehman, Johar Qandhari and other senior KATI members participated in the meeting.
DC Korangi Shadia Jaffar said that issues related to infrastructure and other administrative problems would be her first priority. “I acknowledge the economic significance of Korangi Industrial Area and things will get improve in coming months” she assured.
Danish Khan briefed DC Korangi about major issues faced by KIA. He said that infrastructural problems cause hurdles in industrial production and directly effecting national economy. He urged the DC to make functional coordination committee, was formed to make a liaison between the local administration and industrialists.
Head of KATI’s standing committee on Local Governments Zubair Chhaya told that not any department of the local administration ready to take responsibility of the current state of affairs. He said that encroachments on road sides, garbage dumping at Malir River Bed beside EBM Causeway, Sewerage, water supply, Traffic Jams and other many issues were in the list to solve since decades. Mr. Chhaya urged the DC to take up these issues on priority bases. Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan noted that there was no follow up after such meetings, there should be a forum to monitor progress regarding problems discussed between district administration and the industry. The DC also directed to make functional and effective District coordination committee.
