Business leader and former executive member of FPCCI Zafar Iqbal Butt has filed a petition in the Director General Trade Organization (DGTO) Office Islamabad, stating that all the chambers, small chambers and unclassified chambers are violating rules and regulations for personal gains.
None of the chambers and trade associations has uploaded the Articles of Association on their website or issued the schedule of executive members’ meetings and minutes of meetings are also kept secret from members, he said.
Zafar Iqbal Butt said that qabza groups maintain their hold over chambers and trade organizations by changing the minutes of meetings just before the annual elections.
Under the Right to Information Act 2017, the applicant has asked the DGTO to provide him with details of show-cause notices, fines collected from chambers and trade organizations, and the reasosn behind the withdrawal of notices immediately after issuing the notices.
He has also demanded details regarding contempt cases against DGTO and appeals against decisions of DGTO.
In addition, the petitioner has asked about checking the record of various chambers and trade organizations, appointments of administrators and stipends received from private chambers and trade organizations, while details of the audit of DGTO office have also been sought.
Mr. Butt has also sought details of the funds received by the chambers and trade organizations from the government and abroad, pending complaints and all expenses.
The petition also requested to cancel the licenses of all chambers and trade organizations as all of them are not fulfilling the legal obligation.
