Donation Decision Put on Hold
According to reports, Buffett will postpone his decision until later this year. He may announce his position alongside his traditional Thanksgiving message.
For nearly two decades, Buffett has donated billions of dollars in Berkshire Hathaway stock to the Gates Foundation. His contributions have exceeded $47 billion over that period.
Foundation Review Draws Attention
The Gates Foundation faces renewed scrutiny because of past interactions connected to Jeffrey Epstein.
Foundation Chief Executive Mark Suzman ordered an external review to examine previous engagement with Epstein. The organisation expects findings during the summer.
Earlier this year, released US Justice Department records included emails showing communication between Epstein and foundation staff members.
Bill Gates Responds to Criticism
Bill Gates has not faced criminal accusations linked to Epstein. However, he has repeatedly said he regrets his association with the convicted sex offender. Gates also denied witnessing criminal behaviour or spending time with Epstein’s victims.
The report said Berkshire Hathaway and the Gates Foundation did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Reuters also said it could not independently confirm the Wall Street Journal report.
What Comes Next
Buffett has not ruled out making the donation later in the year. However, his final decision may depend on the review’s findings and future developments surrounding the foundation.
