DUBAI- Australia became the champions of the shortest format of cricket for the first time by easily defeating New Zealand by 8 wickets in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.
Australia won the toss and elected to bat first in the match played at Dubai Cricket Stadium.
Batting first, New Zealand gave Australia a target of 173 runs to win.
New Zealand suffered a huge loss in the form of the wicket of the semi-final hero Daryl Mitchell, he scored only 11 runs.
Captain Ken Williamson then came to the crease and batted. He batted cautiously at first but then bowled the Australian bowlers.
Kane was dismissed after playing a stormy innings of 85 off 48 balls, hitting 10 fours and 3 sixes.
Martin Guptill contributed 28 runs for the team, Glenn Phillips 18 and Jimmy Nesham 8 runs.
New Zealand scored 172 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
Josh Hazelwood from Australia was the most successful bowler who gave only 16 runs in his 4 overs and also took 3 important wickets while besides him Adam Zampa got one wicket.
Chasing the target, Australia suffered their first loss in the form of skipper Aaron Finch, but a 92-run partnership between Mitchell Marsh and David Warner put the match in the hands of the Kangaroos.
David Warrens was dismissed for 53 off 38 balls, but brought the team closer to the first T20 title.
Mitchell Marsh’s bat on the wicket continued to run and he remained unbeaten, playing a smoky innings of 77 runs and the team won the T20 World Cup.
Glenn Maxwell was also unbeaten and scored 28 runs.
New Zealand’s Trent Bold bowled admirably in front of the Australian batsmen where he took 2 important wickets for just 18 runs in his 4 overs.
