Karachi: Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi’s Fine Art Committee organised a tribute ceremony in honour of the renowned artist Musarrat Mirza at the Josh Malihabadi Library. President Arts Council, Mohammad Ahmed Shah, graced the occasion as the chief guest and presented a shield to Musarrat Mirza in recognition of her outstanding services to the field of art.
Prominent writer Noorul Huda Shah, artists Mehr Afroze, Noorjehan Bilgrami, Amra Ali, and Dr Marhab Qasmi also addressed the gathering. The event was attended by a large number of artists and art enthusiasts, including Chairman Fine Art Committee, Farrukh Tanveer Shahab, while the event was moderated by Nusrat Khwaja.
Joint Secretary of the Arts Council and noted writer Noorul Huda Shah said, “It gives me immense joy to see the Arts Council acknowledging and celebrating the services of artists and literary figures. Art and culture are the essence and pride of Sindh, and I congratulate the Arts Council for this wonderful initiative.”
Artist Noorjehan Bilgrami expressed that she had always been inspired by Musarrat Mirza’s work, saying, “Her art speaks for itself — it defines who she is.” Mehr Afroze remarked, “When you stand before Musarrat’s paintings, you don’t feel like moving away. Her work radiates energy — an energy born of love. She never painted for exhibitions but delved deep into her creations; there’s a profound silence in her art.”
Renowned artist Salima Hashmi, speaking via video link, said, “Musarrat Mirza is one of the most significant artists of our time. Her paintings are quiet yet profound — they speak in their own language. I believe no one has created works quite like hers.”
Dr Marhab Qasmi added, “Musarrat’s art reflects the essence of Sukkur — a city she deeply loves. Her paintings truly speak; I am proud to have some of them in my own home.”
Curator and critic Amra Ali shared her thoughts, saying, “There are countless dimensions to light, yet words fall short in describing them. Light, reflection, humility, and solitude are integral to Musarrat Mirza’s art. Her work draws strength from the soil, land, and Sufi poetry — it’s not merely painting but a reflection of deep thought and emotion.”
Expressing her gratitude, Musarrat Mirza said, “Being an artist is no big achievement; those whom you call artists are simply humble souls. Artists are like flowers — delicate and transient. Creation belongs only to the Divine; we humans are mere instruments of expression. I don’t consider myself a great painter — I simply paint what I see in nature. The journey of an artist is one of constant search. Art never ends; it’s an eternal pursuit. I am just an ordinary person born in a modern world, still seeking my destination.”
