Karachi : Sexual Harassment towards the young individuals is a serious issue which is not really talked about enough, the impacts of it should also be talked about as the youth is the future of Pakistan. The points to highlight on this topic are what measures to take in order to prevent harassment, how to educate the minor individuals about this, what serious impacts can it have on young individuals and how to spread awareness about it in both urban and rural areas. Sexual Harassment from a very young age can have imapcts on an individuals socialisation, psychological wellbeing, emotional development and academics. For instance, A young individual ,who is very social, scores excellent grades, has many people in their circle and is the light of a social gathering, faces sexual harassment and suddenly their course of life changes. Their social, academic life and emotional wellbeing goes downhill. This is how much sexual harassment can change one’s life. Their ambitions, expectations and goals in life drastically change as they lose their will to achieve anything in life because of this one event. This one event can traumatise them enough thus being the reason why suicide rates continue to rise. Now to put it in a scenario, if that individual knew how the harassment towards them is something which is not okay, they could talk to adults around them about it and get the person who harassed them punished, if our country had an organisation that helped youth who faced harassment get any kind of help they require just imagine how many minors could get back their personality or feel confident that they have someone who can help them out of the nightmare they faced. These organisations can also help spread awareness in the areas where people do not have
facilities such as social media, teaching minors about good and bad touch and telling them how the organisation can help them get the justice they deserve. I would like to talk about this topic of young individuals facing
harassment, as people of our society consider talking about harassment as a taboo. Through your newspaper column a big change can be made and our youth can feel like they can share their experience and they can leave out suggestions as to what they think can help others who faced similar experiences . There is nothing more helpful for an individual than the sense of being heard.
