The Core Committee of All Pakistan Livestock & Dairy Association (APLDA) has demanded all the Provincial Governments and specially the Federal Government to allow organizing the registered Maweshi Mandi at the district, village, union council, tehsil levels as planned under the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) enabling the general public to celebrate the forthcoming Eid-Ul-Azha with religious zeal and traditional fervour. Traditionally, farming families raise animals, mostly goats or calves, to sell in cities at a premium on Eidul Azha to generate funds for purposes not covered by routine income.
The money earned from the sale of cattle makes Eid in rural Pakistan sweeter. It is treated as an annual bonus. Besides affording some indulgence for the family, the money is often used to replace agricultural tools, do home repairs or invest in assets. Small farm-holders may also use the money to retire debt. Thus, in these difficult unusual Covid-19 times, when the economy is under immense stress, the feeler of not organizing Mandi’s countrywide will have massive repercussions.
Therefore, the APLDA would request the Federal as well as all Provincial Governments to organize Maweshi Mandi countrywide under SOPs, so that the economic cycle would continue without any hindrance whatsoever. We need not to forget that God Forbid if 50% or any similar percentage remains unsold due to ongoing Economy conditions, then, raising them for another year or even selling them to the slaughter houses post Eid, will have massive economic repercussions.

Therefore, APLDA wishes to humbly submit that forthwith the exports of sacrificial animals to the Middle eastern countries and adjoining markets should be allowed as that would ensure revenue influx and will also be of immense support to the local cattle farmers.
Lastly, the APLDA core committee commends the respective roles being played by Federal and Provincial Governments in their fight against the Pandemic COVID-19 and accordingly extends maximum support and cooperation in these difficult times.
