Journalist Ansar Abbasi has suggested that the government and the establishment might be in favor of extending Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s term. This comes after Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), announced that Justice Mansoor Ali Shah will take over as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan.
In an interview, Bhutto stated confidently, “On October 26, Justice Mansoor will become the next chief justice — no doubt.” He also discussed the heavy workload facing the Supreme Court, which he believes affects its ability to work effectively. He noted the long wait for justice in the murder case of former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, saying, “We waited almost 50 years for justice.”
Bhutto expressed hope that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) would play a positive role in discussions about constitutional amendments but acknowledged the challenges of working with them. During his appearance on Geo News’ Capital Talk, he mentioned that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) is working on its own draft for amendments. He concluded by saying that the PPP will also prepare a draft about the constitutional court to share with Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
