Ahsan Zafar Syed has assumed the role of the 5th President and CEO of Engro Corporation, marking a significant milestone in the company’s journey. With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, Ahsan brings a wealth of experience and strategic leadership to his new position.
Having joined Engro as a young engineer in 1991, Ahsan has played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s growth trajectory across multiple sectors, including petrochemicals, energy, and food & agriculture. His notable achievements include spearheading the $1.1 billion fertilizer expansion project and driving the $2 billion Thar dream initiative, aimed at revolutionizing energy production in Pakistan.
Prior to his current appointment, Ahsan led Engro’s flagship fertilizer business, steering it to become the most valuable fertilizer company on the Pakistan Stock Exchange. Under his leadership, the company underwent significant portfolio optimization, enhancing market positioning and operational efficiencies.
Ahsan’s contributions to Pakistan’s energy sector have been equally impactful, particularly in realizing the Thar dream through the operationalization of a 660MW power plant. This project has not only bolstered Pakistan’s energy security but also achieved substantial import substitution, benefiting millions of people annually.
In recognition of his engineering prowess, Ahsan was honored with the prestigious “National Engineering Excellence Award” in 2024. His dedication to advancing engineering in Pakistan extends to his honorary services with the Engineering Development Board.
Ahsan holds degrees from NED Karachi and Manhattan College New York, USA, and has completed advanced management programs at INSEAD in France.
