KARACHI – The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Sunday said the federal government has earmarked Rs21.72 billion for the health sector in budget 2021-22 which should be increased to improve the country’s healthcare system and make it more robust.

Pakistan needs a monumental increase in allocation of funds for the ailing health sector in the wake of increasing challenges, it said.

The healthcare sector has been a key driver of growth which requires a holistic approach for improving the system and promotion of alternative medicine including the Unani and Homeopathic system of medicine, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President PEW.

He said this while talking to Dr. Asad Pervaiz Qureshi, Chief Executive Officer Kamal Laboratories, Dr. Imtiaz Gondal, Dr. Azam and others.

Dr. Mughal said that a neighboring country has dozens of Homeopathic universities and 225 Homeopathic colleges and it is spending hundreds of billions of rupees on alternative medicines which are cheaper and without side-effects but this sector is yet to attract the attention of policymakers in Pakistan.

He said that Pakistan urgently need a Homeopathic medical college in every province, a state-of-the-art research center and we can establish Homeopathic hospitals and dispensaries across Pakistan if this sector is patronized, he said.

According to the WHO, Homeopathy is the second-largest medicine system in the world benefitting billions of people as it is free of complications, he informed.

He lauded the efforts of Dr. Asad Pervaiz Qureshi for promoting Homeopathy and providing free medicines for free medical camps.

Dr. Asad Pervaiz Qureshi said Homeopathic medicines are prepared from tiny amounts of proven healing substances derived mainly from plants, minerals, and animals. They are given in very minute doses so that they are non-toxic, and are very safe.

Unlike antibiotics and other medicines, homeopathic medicines will not hamper digestion; will not lower immune resistance; will not produce allergic reactions and are safe in the long term if taken as directed by a qualified homeopath, he said.
