He made the remarks while addressing a meeting of the federal cabinet on Wednesday. The prime minister said international oil prices had “skyrocketed” because of the regional situation.

“Pakistan is playing its role as before in restoring peace in the region,” he said.

Pakistan Continues Diplomatic Engagement

Shehbaz recalled Pakistan’s recent engagements with Tehran and other regional actors aimed at supporting peace.

He also referred to diplomatic efforts under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, highlighting Pakistan’s continued role in regional discussions.

He said the government had planned to increase fuel prices by Rs15 on Friday. However, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik held discussions with refineries to absorb the additional burden through their windfall profits.

“We will not let a common man bear this burden,” Shehbaz said.

The government’s approach, as outlined by the prime minister, aims to limit the impact of higher global oil prices on ordinary consumers.

The remarks come as Pakistan faces the challenge of managing domestic fuel costs amid uncertainty in international energy markets.
