SABS University Implements Sindh High Court Order in Workplace Harassment Case

SABS University implements the Sindh High Court order in a workplace harassment case.
SABS University of Art, Design and Heritages, Jamshoro, has withdrawn the rejoining permission granted to former Deputy Director Finance Asif Ali Shar. The university has removed him from service with immediate effect, following a Sindh High Court order dated October 20, 2026.
The university’s Acting Registrar issued the latest order in compliance with the High Court’s decision in Constitution Petition No. D-1820 of 2024. The order withdraws an earlier office order dated July 31, 2026, which had allowed Shar to rejoin his duties as interim relief.
High Court Dismisses Petition
The Sindh High Court’s Circuit Court in Hyderabad dismissed Shar’s petition challenging a decision by the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh in a workplace harassment case involving a female faculty member at SABS University.

According to the university’s account, Shar was terminated in 2024 after allegations of harassment. The university says its harassment committee and the Girls Rescue Centre in Jamshoro conducted a separate inquiry and found the allegations proven.
Shar later challenged the Provincial Ombudsman’s decision. However, the Ombudsman dismissed his petition on November 20, 2024. He subsequently approached the Sindh High Court to seek relief against that decision.
Court Refers to Available Legal Remedies
After several hearings, the High Court dismissed Shar’s petition on October 20, 2026. Advocates Parkash Kumar and Ravi Kumar represented the university, alongside its legal team.
The court observed that granting direct reinstatement would require reconsideration of disputed factual allegations. It said this would mean substituting the court’s assessment for that of the competent statutory forum.
The court also clarified that Shar could pursue any available legal remedy before the competent forum in accordance with the law.
University Withdraws Earlier Rejoining Order
Following the judgment, SABS University formally withdrew the July 31 order that had permitted Shar to rejoin temporarily. The new order confirms his removal from service with immediate effect.
The university’s action implements the High Court’s decision and follows the applicable institutional and statutory process. The case highlights the role of judicial oversight and statutory forums in handling workplace harassment complaints.
The court’s decision concerns the petition challenging the Ombudsman’s ruling. Any further legal proceedings would depend on the remedies available under the law.
