Imran Khan Supreme Court hospitalisation order and medical checkup in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has directed authorities to shift jailed PTI founder Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for a medical checkup within the next few days.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Shahid Wahid issued the order. Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim were also part of the bench.
The court issued the ruling while hearing Imran Khan’s petition seeking hospitalisation. The decision comes amid concerns over the former prime minister’s health while he remains imprisoned at Adiala Jail.
Supreme Court Orders Medical Examination for Imran Khan
The Supreme Court directed the relevant authorities to arrange Imran Khan’s transfer to the Islamabad hospital.
The medical examination is expected to assess his current health condition. The order followed a report submitted by the superintendent of Adiala Jail.
Imran Khan has remained imprisoned at Adiala Jail since August 2023. His health and access to medical care have repeatedly drawn attention from his lawyers and supporters.
The latest court order provides for a formal medical assessment at Shifa International Hospital.

Weekly Meetings With Family Ordered
The court also directed authorities to ensure weekly meetings between Imran Khan and his family members.
The order seeks to maintain regular family contact during his imprisonment. It forms part of the broader directions issued by the court regarding his health and welfare.
The Supreme Court also ordered the formation of a medical board to oversee his assessment.
Imran Khan’s personal physician and his sister, Dr Uzma Khan, are to remain associated with the medical board, according to the ruling.
Court Restricts Release of Medical Reports
The Supreme Court also issued directions regarding Imran Khan’s medical information.
His lawyers and family members were instructed not to share his medical reports with the media. They were also directed not to politicise the matter.
The direction aims to keep the focus on his medical assessment and treatment. It also places restrictions on the public disclosure of his health records.
Jail Report Preceded Supreme Court Order
The ruling came after the superintendent of Adiala Jail submitted a report to the Supreme Court.
The report addressed Imran Khan’s health condition while he remains in custody. The court considered the report during proceedings on his hospitalisation petition.
The Supreme Court’s directions now require authorities to arrange his medical checkup in Islamabad.
The order also establishes a framework for continued family meetings and medical oversight while addressing concerns surrounding the former premier’s health.
