The Punjab government unveiled a free solar panel scheme on Sunday, aiming to provide solar systems to households consuming up to 200 electricity units per month.

According to a report by Samaa News on Monday, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari announced that families consuming 100 units or less of electricity would receive a 550-watt solar system under the initiative.

Applicants can register through a dedicated portal by submitting their electricity bill reference number. Renters must also provide a no-objection certificate (NOC) from property owners, with solar panels registered under the owner’s name.

To ensure transparency, the government plans to allocate panels through a computerized draw.

The scheme has been widely praised as a step toward energy sustainability and economic relief for low-income citizens.
