India and New Zealand shared points as their ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 match at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, was washed out on Thursday, 13 June.
The covers remained on at Trent Bridge almost throughout the day, and no toss was possible. Umpire inspections were scheduled at regular intervals, but with the showers returning ever so often, there was little prospect of a start.
Continuous rain over the past few days had meant the outfield was left wet; with the groundsmen informing officials that they would need at least two hours in the existing conditions to prepare the ground for play, finally, at 3pm local time, the match was called off.
The result means both India and New Zealand remain the only undefeated teams in the tournament. Virat Kohli’s men play Pakistan next in Manchester on Sunday, while New Zealand has a break till next Wednesday when they take on South Africa in Birmingham.
